Services for the Transferring College Student

Although most students do their best to find a college that matches their academic and personal needs, sometimes the better fit seems to be elsewhere. These students, often to the dismay of their parents, choose to begin the process all over again and transfer to another college. There are many valid reasons for transferring and many students who propose them. Some find the academics at their first school too demanding or not challenging enough. Others want another shot at the dream school from which they had previously been rejected. Some move to be farther from home, some closer. Often students discover a career interest which they realize is not adequately supported by the courses offered in the original college. There are many valid reasons and many appropriate possibilities.

EDUFAX can help you to:
  • Assess your college transcript carefully.
Make sure you know which courses will transfer and which will be disregarded. Will you have to spend an extra semester or year to earn your BA ? Does the college offer exactly what you want ?
  • Decide if the transfer is financially viable.
If you need financial aid, discuss your position with the schools to which you are applying. Some may not offer you the same funding you have been receiving in your original school.
  • Inquire about campus housing.
As a transfer student, you will need the campus more than others so that you can establish your peer group and social circles. If you have to live off campus, you may never really understand what campus life is like.
  • Find out about re-applying.
Some schools will allow you to reactivate your application, others insist that you resubmit everything, including essay and recommendations.
  • Find out which application is appropriate.
Some schools use the same application for both situations, with minor changes for freshman or transfer status. Others, however, have completely different applications for transfers.
  • Decide if you should transfer.
You may never know for certain, but if you are unhappy, academically or socially, you should look for another environment which might suit you better.

EDUFAX provides clients with full e-mail support for communication, essays, resumes and other services.
