The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in TRANSFERRING.....
| Question #3: |
- How much weight is given to SAT scores in the transferring process and can a high GPA in college make up for a low SAT? (courtesy Matthew McHale, Dumont, NJ)
|
| Answer #3: |
- The SAT was originally designed to predict academic succes in the college freshman year. Of course, there are many students who do not test well. If you are transferring after your sophomore year, your SAT scores are almost insignificant. After your freshman year, however, admissions counselors will probably take your SAT into consideration, although not heavily. A high college GPA and strong recommendations are your best guarantee for transfer admissibility, but your "good" grades must also come from a "good" school. It is unlikely that you could transfer to Brown University from Podunk U, even with a GPA=4.0. Finally, transfer slots depend heavily on availability. If the school loves you but has no place for you in its class, you may be disappointed once again.(by way of GOCOLLEGE)
