The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in SAT/PSAT/ACT.....

Question #91:
  • I took my PSAT as a sophomore. My results were: Verbal=56, Math=41. What is the most efficient way to raise my math scores, and will the gap in my scores affect my application?
Answer #91:
  • Your question reminds me of an old joke:
What's the best way to get to Carnegie Hall?
    The answer is:Practice, practice, practice.

First, go over your PSAT report to see what types of math problems
you got wrong. As a sophomore, you might have been missing some of the coursework you needed to understand certain math problems, so it's possible you'll do better as a junior. Find a teacher, a peer tutor or someone who is willing to help you with your math. There are also workbooks and computer programs which can help you learn how to take the SAT effectively. Before you purchase practice materials, use the power specialized search engine available through the EDUFAX
site to compare prices of SAT prep books or software (CD-ROMs). Use
the search engine for comparison shopping [free].

Unless you are intuitively mathematical, nothing can help you learn but lots of hard work and practice, practice, practice. EDUFAX provides Verbal Test Prep Tutorials (PSAT/SAT I/SAT II/ACT).
