The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in SAT/PSAT/ACT.....

Question #64:
  • I need to improve my verbal SAT scores. I read a lot. I have used test prep books. I have memorized hundreds of vocabulary words. However, I still have problems with analogies and critical reading. I qualify to take the test with extended time. Do you think that would affect my scores? Any suggestions?
Answer #64:
  • You are doing everything right. Have patience. The more tests you take, the better you will understand what the SAT is looking for. Find a tutor, or even a peer, to sit and take tests with you and discuss the specific areas that give you trouble. If you have problems with critical reading, an educational evaluation might help you identify which parts of the process are causing you trouble. Then contact a reading tutor or qualified learning specialist who can help you assess your errors and learn to correct them.
It can't hurt to try the test untimed -- most schools consider your highest scores, whether they were achieved in a special administration or not.
EDUFAX provides Verbal Test Prep Tutorials (PSAT/SAT I/SAT II/ACT).
