- The most important tool to prepare for college entrance standardized testing is a good vocabulary book. Don't learn hundreds of words at a time - you'll simply forget hundreds of words at a time. Learn two or three new words each day and use them until you feel confident that they are "yours".
You will also need a test-prep book which uses actual tests - SATs or ACTs - that have been given in the past. Testing yourself on actual tests will give you a true idea of your level and will highlight the areas you need to improve. There are computer programs which serve the same purpose.
Some students who learn well in groups can join SAT or ACT classes given by private centers or by community learning programs. If you do better in a one-on-one environment, find a private tutor and attend individualized lessons. EDUFAX provides such services.
The SAT/ACT once maintained that you could not prepare for their tests. A popular Verbal Workbook now states that if the SAT were "...an actual indicator of your intelligence, you wouldn't be able to prep for it. But you can..."
Use the EDUFAX search engine to find Books and Software to assist you in preparing for the PSAT/SAT I/SAT II/ACT.
