The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in SAT/PSAT/ACT.....

Question #16:
  • I did well on the Verbal SAT (650) but not as well on the Math section (520). Do colleges consider each score separately or the combined score (1170). Is it unfavorable that the scores are so separated ?
Answer #16:
  • Speak with your guidance counselor or a private educational consultant and map out a strategy for the next year. Math-oriented colleges, like MIT or CalTech, look for students with higher math scores. Liberal Arts schools usually do not favor one over the other, but are concerned when there is a huge split (e.g. 480/710, not like yours). Your composite score will be considered first -- the sum of the highest verbal and the highest math. Don't be afraid to take the SAT again. You will never be penalized.
EDUFAX provides Verbal Test Prep Tutorials (PSAT/SAT I/SAT II/ACT).
