The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in SAT/PSAT/ACT.....

Question #118:
  • My daughter is in the 7th grade. Where can I get a sample PSAT? Can I get my daughter tested outside the school? (courtesy La Terry Davis, Scotland Neck, NC)
Answer #118:
  • You can get a copy of a full PSAT in any of the preparatory books available for SAT and PSAT. These books include scoring guides. If you administer the test under the time guidelines indicated in the book, you should be able to get an accurate score for your daughter.
Another way of getting a PSAT score is to register your daughter for a prep course at a Kaplan Testing Center. They will often test and report the scores (sometimes this is even free before you actually have to pay to sign up for a course).
The program to identify gifted children from Johns Hopkins University administers the test nationally to children in 7th grade who have exhibited signs of exceptional ability. You should ask your school principal how your daughter might become eligible for this program.
Finally, you can contact the Educational Testing Service (ETS), which administers the PSAT, at: (609) 921-9000 or check out the ETS Internet site. They will provide you with information regarding the registration for the PSAT.
You can register your daughter through the local high school and have her sit for the test without going through her own school.
I would suggest, however, that she do a few practice tests in a review book first, so that she knows what type of test format to expect.
You can find the Kaplan Testing Center web site and check out the PSAT prep books and CD programs available online through the EDUFAX site.
