The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in SAT/PSAT/ACT.....

Question #113:
  • I have taken the SAT twice. The first time I got 1390 (Math/Verbal = 710/680), the second time I got 1460 (Math/Verbal = 770/690). Should I take the SAT a third time?
Answer #113:
  • I would suggest that you take the SAT one more time, but not unless you are willing to devote some serious time to preparing for the verbal sections. If you took the test on one of the dates for which the question and answer sheet was available, request it from the Educational Testing Service (ETS) to see which section caused you the most trouble.
Go over you mistakes and try to avoid the same pitfalls on your final attempt. Use a vocabulary building program just to get a few more possibilities under your belt. You never know which words will appear in the analogy or fill-in-the blank sections and the more words you know, the better off you will be. Make sure that you know how to dig for implied information in the reading comprehension passages. These are the skills that make the differences between scores in the 600's and scores in the 700's.
Since almost all colleges use a composite number based on your highest verbal and your highest math scores, you have nothing to lose by trying again.
You can find the best deals on the 'Net for PSAT/SAT/ACT prep CDs and tutorials through the EDUFAX site.
You can reach the Educational Testing Service (ETS), in Princeton, NJ, at: (609) 921-9000 or
check out the ETS Internet site.
EDUFAX provides Verbal Test Prep Tutorials (PSAT/SAT I/SAT II/ACT).
