The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in RETURNING to school.....
| Question #6: |
- I graduated from highschool in 1985. I would like to
become a certified teacher. I am married with children and my
household income is below average. I can only attend part-time or
nightly. What are my options?
|
| Answer #6: |
-
The first thing you should do is contact the State Board of
Education closest to you to find out which schools offer certification on a part-time track. You can take one course at a time or
a slightly larger load, depending on your responsibilities with your
children and how many people you have on your support team.
For very part-time programs there is usually not much financial aid
available, but you can speak with the admissions offices and ask
them to assess your particular situation. Since the guidelines for
financial aid are federal, most admissions offices will compute a
projected award program from last year's tax statements. There are
also monthly payment plans, deferred payment plans, and other
individual systems for paying for certification courses. Some
schools even offer tuition reimbursement if you commit to teach
in certain areas when you are done.
EDUFAX provides services for the Adult/Non-Traditional/Re-entry Student.
