The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in RETURNING to school.....

Question #31:
  • I graduated from high school in 1969, 1/2 a credit short of the requirements (a non-mandatory credit). I also took the SAT in 1969. How do I get into college now?
Answer #31:
  • Identify some of the colleges which interest you and speak with their admissions officers. Some will admit you without the 1/2 credit and then grant you a high school diploma in passing as you continue on for your BA. Others will require that you sit for the GED. In some states, there are life-experience credits which could be added to your transcript to formalize your high school diploma. Also, there are some colleges which do not require a high school degree for matriculation.
Unfortunately, each college has a different policy so you will have to do some of the legwork yourself. You should also contact some of the community colleges in your area to see how they can help you resolve this situation.
The bad news is that your SAT scores from over 30 years ago are no longer valid. The good news is that most programs for returning students do not require non-traditional age applicants to take standardized testing.
EDUFAX provides services for the Adult/Non-Traditional/Re-entry Student.
