The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in RETURNING to school.....
| Question #29: |
- I spent one year in college and then took a year off.
I have dysgraphia, dyslexia and ADD. I would like to return to
school. I now live in Rhode Island. Please help!
|
| Answer #29: |
- This time around I think it is extremely important that you find a
place which has everything you need to make you feel comfortable and
supported in all of your learning issues and needs. There are a
number of schools in the New England area which might be suitable
for you, but you should really work with someone who understands
your learning issues, your social/emotional needs, the type of
people you like to be with, the extracurricular activities you would
like to have available on campus, the appropriate academic level,
and the general atmosphere which you would find most compatible with
your life style.
One school which is truly unique is Landmark College in VT. Its
programs are designed specifically to help college students with
learning differences become successful self-advocates so that they
can go on to succeed at other schools. Students stay at Landmark for
up to two years until they feel ready to conquer the academic and
social environments at mainstream colleges. Check out the school
web site.
In order to guarantee goodness of fit, you can't throw the names of
a few schools into a hat, pull one out, and just apply randomly. You
should really work with an educational consultant who takes the time
to know you and your issues in depth.
EDUFAX provides services for the Adult/Non-Traditional/Re-entry Student.
