The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in RETURNING to school.....
| Question #21: |
- I am 39 years old. I joined the Navy before
graduating from high school. Some of the Navy courses were
supposed to carry college credits. I have passed the GED and I
want to go to college. What should I do?
|
| Answer #21: |
- Begin your inquiry at the Department of Higher Education in your
state. They will tell you what colleges or universities will
help you put some of your life experiences together for college
credits. You should also contact some of the community colleges
in your area. They offer gentle reimmersion into the world of
academics. Contact the Department of Naval Education to discover
which of your military courses can be translated into civilian
college credit.
It is possible that you will be farther ahead than you thought
when you add up your credits from the courses you took in the
Navy. For instance, in Connecticut, Charter Oak College will
help you combine your academic credits with real world
experience so that you can utilize everything you have learned
to acquire a BA.
Before you begin your search, make sure that you have an
original or notarized copy of your GED and transcripts with
course descriptions from all of your Navy courses.
For some schools, you will need to submit standardized test
results, but most will waive this requirement because of your
non-traditional age and status.
Good Luck!.
