The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I have a LEARNING DISABILITY.....
| Question #46: |
- My son has NLD. I have been looking at Eagle Hill in
Greenwich, CT. The school offers a "language immersion program" and
support in sports and clubs. I am also looking at the Lab School in
Washington, DC. What is your opinion?
|
| Answer #46: |
- Eagle Hill in Greenwich, CT, occasionally takes some NLD students,
but their program is generally set up for students with language
based learning disabilities. The Lab School in Washington, DC, on
the other hand, has a great deal of experience with NLD and I
believe it has developed some of the most effective ways for
teaching children with this complex disorder.
However, (and I hate to sound like a broken record since I have said
this so many times), each kid with NLD is a unique and original
entity. Some schools are great for some and awful for others. As
with any other type of learning difference, you must know your child
well and find someone who knows the school well before you make a
change. It is not enough to have the school tell you what the school
can do for your son. Find out what the school has been doing from
educational consultants and other families whose children have
similar needs.
Remember that children with NLD are exquisitely affected by their
environment. Be scrupulous about how you choose it.
Find these and many other private schools on the EDUFAX Independent School List.
