The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I have a LEARNING DISABILITY.....
| Question #44: |
- My daughter will be a senior in high school. She has a
learning disability: her reading are writing are delayed. However,
she has A's & B's in her special ed classes. She has completed one
year at the Early Childhood Ed Program, at the Auburn Career Center.
We would like to find a college that supports her needs.
|
| Answer #44: |
- Many Students with language-based learning disabilities go to
college and do quite well. The most important thing to do is to find
a college that will offer the same supports that your daughter has
been receiving until now and that also has a centralized learning
program for students with LD.
Although it would be impossible for me to suggest specific schools
for your daughter without evaluating her reports, transcripts,
recommendations, etc., you should have a serious conversation with
her college advisor to learn which schools within the geographical
distance your desire meet the qualifications I have mentioned.
In Ohio, for example, there are many schools with centralized
programs for LD students. Some of those you might consider are:
- Muskingum College
- Ursuline College
- College of Mount St. Joseph
If you are interested in looking at schools a bit farther away, the
Threshold Program at Lesley College in Cambridge, MA, might be ideal
for your daughter.
You can find the web sites of these and ALL the colleges in the USA
through the EDUFAX Internet site.
It would be wise to engage the services of an educational consultant
who is experienced in LD placement to help find the best college for
your daughter. With the proper research and investigation, I am sure
she will find a school she loves and where she will succeed.
