The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I have a LEARNING DISABILITY.....
| Question #22: |
- Are public schools required to have a special program
for dyslexia? And are there any guidelines that are mandated?
|
| Answer #22: |
- Public schools are required to provide accommodation for all
mandated learning disabilities. If the proper testing and diagnostic
reports are presented, the schools have an obligation to provide an
appropriate education in the least restrictive setting. In some
districts, however, it is impossible to have specialized
professionals in every school, so some children with special needs
are sent to different schools in the district. Write to the
Department of Education in your state for specific guidelines
regarding specific regulations. If a student with dyslexia cannot be
served in the public system, the district will have to consider
external placement.
If this process sounds too daunting for you, find an educational
consultant with experience in services for LD students. You could also
use the EDUFAX services for the LD Student.
