The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am an INTERNATIONAL, FOREIGN STUDENT interested in applying to an American college.....
| Question #26: |
- I was born in the United States and maintain American
citizenship. I grew up and graduated high school outside the US. I
am now interested in applying to college in the US. Will I be
considered an international student? (courtesy Edan Wernik, Chicago, IL)
|
| Answer #26: |
-
Each college you consider will have its own rules, but you are in an
advantageous position because of your American citizenship. Most
schools will consider you a US applicant, since you will not have to
meet any of the requirements for international student visas. Some,
however, may still put you into the "international" pile when
considering your academic credentials if your degree is from a
non-English speaking high school. As you know, there are often
several schools in foreign countries which do use English as the
language of instruction, and if you have attended such a high
school, you will probably meet all the qualifications required of US
applicants who graduate from a high school in the States.
Make a list of the schools that interest you and contact the Office
of International Students in each one to clarify your position and to
verify the specific requirements for your situation.
EDUFAX provides services for the International Applicant.
