The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in a PRIVATE, BOARDING, or INDEPENDENT SCHOOL.....
| Question #7: |
- A psychologist has recommended that our teenage
daughter enroll in an all-girls boarding school. She is almost
fifteen years old. All the colorful brochures look fantastic. How
do we narrow the list?
|
| Answer #7: |
- You are so right! All the brochures look wonderful but I can assure
you from having visited many schools that they all have different
strengths and weaknesses. You should make a list of the major issues
you want a school to address. Then speak with admissions officers to
ask how they would deal with your daughter's specific needs.
If you cannot get the information you would like, you should work
with an educational consultant who is familiar with the
developmental profiles of adolescents and with the different
presentations of a number of single-sex boarding schools in the
geographical areas which you are considering. You can find a listing
of certified educational consultants in your area by searching the
Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) Internet
site.
You could also use the EDUFAX Services for the Independent School Applicant.
