What are the academic rankings of the private prep high schools in the USA?

Despite all the brouhaha that rankings generate regarding colleges, there are no published rankings for independent schools in the USA. Educational consultants and school people, of course, have a general knowledge of which schools accept top students, second tier students and so on, but there is no definitive "in print" hierarchal listing. You should try to find an educational consultant who is aware of your child's strengths and interests in order to be sure that you are looking at the category of schools which will guarantee a challenging educational environment suitable to your child's needs and abilities. A good educational consultant who has visited a number of schools, is familiar with the academic curricula and has placed students in a variety of settings, should be able to help you understand which schools are more challenging than others.
