The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in a PRIVATE, BOARDING, or INDEPENDENT SCHOOL.....

Question #17:
  • Is there financial assistance for children attending private school?
Answer #17:
  • Each private school has different sources of funding, some of which comes from their own endowment funds and some of which comes from various other sources. A student requesting financial aid from an independent school must complete financial aid forms which are similar to the forms students use when applying for financial aid from colleges. The school then determines how much aid the student is entitled to receive. For distribution of their own funds, the schools have more leeway, especially if they are extremely interested in recruiting a student because of academic or athletic talent, or if they are interested in offering the benefits of a private school education to a particularly deserving candidate.
For minority students, there are programs which can cover almost full tuition. One such program is A Better Chance, which is often featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show. ABC identifies talented minority students in disadvantaged areas and offers them the opportunity to study in both public and private schools with stronger educational options.
Any school which interests you can give you specific details about its financial aid program and about the procedural steps for applying.

EDUFAX provides Services for the Independent School Applicant.
