The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in a PRIVATE, BOARDING, or INDEPENDENT SCHOOL.....

Question #14:
  • I live in California. I did not take school seriously and now I understand how stupid of me that was. I have a terribly low GPA (2.7), so I know I have killed my chances of going to college. What can I do to enter a college in the future? I know there are college prep schools, but I am having a hard time choosing one. What can I do? (courtesy Ella Zenick, Solana Beach, CA)
Answer #14:
  • As long as you have a few good brain cells left, you have not yet killed your chances of going to college. You can found out about post-graduate programs (PG-13) by talking to your high school guidance counselor or by speaking with a certified educational consultant.
Since you are a resident of California, you could also start out at a community college and then transfer after two years into the great California state educational system.
Many kids wake up a bit late, but it is never too late if you really want to make the effort and go to college. I recently learned about a woman who received her BA at 79 and her master's degree at 90. You may be a slow starter, but if you have already realized that fooling around in high school was a mistake, I have a feeling you might be done with a few degrees before you turn 30!
