My son is gifted in visual arts and is very creative. He has been battling depression for the last 3 years and his grades are marginal (Bs, Cs, and a few Fs). His I.Q.=135. His doctors and counselors agree he is very talented and that the public school system is not answering his needs. Are there boarding schools that concentrate on art and humanities that may be able to motivate him and would accept him in spite of his academics?

There are definitely boarding schools which would allow your son to concentrate on the more creative side of the academic spectrum while helping him deal with depression and work on building self-esteem. I urge you to contact a qualified educational consultant who can help you search for the right school for your son. Clinical depression is a serious medical condition and it is extremely important to identify schools where there are trained personnel who can help your son get well while he gets an education.
