The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in GRADUATE SCHOOL.....

Question #44:
  • After 3 years of hard work, I am graduating with a BS in Electrical Engineering. My GPA is OK, but not great, at around 3.4. My GRE scores are quite good. How do I communicate this information in my applications to graduate schools? (courtesy Michael Forbes, Tulsa, OK)
Answer #44:
  • Frankly, your scores and GPA will speak for themselves. However, you can add an explanation of your academic career to go with your applications. Call attention to particularly impressive scores in your major.
Also, you mention that you are graduating after 3 years of hard work. Did you actually stay in college for four years, but work hard for only three? Or more seriously, did you complete your undergraduate work in three years? If so, explain why and how.
A personal interview should also be part of your application so that they can judge the quality of your potential teaching and research skills.
EDUFAX provides services for the Graduate School Applicant.
