The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in GRADUATE SCHOOL.....

Question #32:
  • I have a BA in Psychology from USF. My GPA=3.8 and I have good clinical experience. My research experience is slim and my GRE=1,200. What are my chances of getting into a Ph.D. or Psy.D. program in Clinical Psychology ?
Answer #32:
  • You might do better by applying first for a Master's degree. You should also do some intensive studying on areas which were difficult for you and retake the GRE. If your GRE scores improve, however, you should try to apply to both Ph.D. or Psy.D. programs along with your M.A. applications (not in the same schools, though) and see which programs will consider you for the higher degree.
Programs in Clinical Psychology have become extremely competitive in the last ten years. If you are interested in a career as a therapist, you might also consider doing a master's degree in Social Work. Many MSWs and LCSWs see clients in private practice.
EDUFAX provides services for the Graduate School Applicant.
