The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in GRADUATE SCHOOL.....

Question #12:
  • I am graduating from college and am interested in pursuing graduate school in Graphic Design. I have no field experience. Any advice regarding internships? co-ops? (courtesy GOCOLLEGE)
Answer #12:
  • In Graphic Design, experience in the field is as important as graduate education. Try to find a place that will accept you as an intern, perhaps even pay you a base-line salary and allow you to learn firsthand what you like and what you don't like about the field. This experience will provide you a much clearer focus for what you want to do in Graduate School. Co-op courses are good for the same reason -- they give practical experience. It would probably be a good idea to do the internship in the city where the Graduate School you are planning to attend is located. Then the contacts made will reflect directly on the local graphics arts community and your work can be evaluated by people who understand the environment in which you produced it.
