The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #96:
  • My son is entering senior year. The problem is that my wife and I have to nag him about making some school choices, setting up college tours, filling out applications, etc. We are very frustrated by his unwillingness to focus on the steps that will lead him to college? (courtesy Ken Caputo, Somerset, NJ).
Answer #96:
  • Your son's behavior is typical. The college application process has become so arduous that kids deny and deny until the last minute. As a parent who has done this three times (only one to go!!), I have learned how emotional the interaction between parents and kids can be on this topic. In fact, I often say that my best credential as an educational consultant is that I'm not the parent of the students entrusted to my care.
If you would like to have a smooth year with a positive outcome, I suggest that you engage the services of an educational consultant. Independent consultants have the time and expertise to help your son make a productive match.
