The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #83:
  • I am a senior with a GPA=3.4, SAT=1100, competing in a large school with 800 graduates. How much will my class rank affect me and what are my chances of getting into a UC school such as UCLA? (courtesy Fran C., San Gabriel, CA)
Answer #83:
  • Since you are a California resident, you know how competitive it is to get into UCLA. If I were you, I would investigate some of the other great schools in the UC system. Actually, if you want a clear understanding of where you stand, you can call the UCLA admissions office and they will tell you what their in-state admissions criteria are (grades, rank, SAT, etc.). The most difficult part of that will be getting through to a human voice. They have a notorious pre-recorded system, but if you are patient, you will get to a helpful admissions officer. The criteria change from year to year, but the range will help you realize which schools will accept you and which may push you further down the UC trail.
