The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #45:
  • I am interested in joining the Americorps. Several of the colleges I am interested in have renewable scholarships. If I choose to join for a year after my freshman year of college, will it ruin my chances of having a scholarship when I return ?
Answer #45:
  • Every college is different, but most will allow you to renew a renewable scholarship even if there is a break in the continuity of your education. It also depends on whether these are outright grants, merit scholarships, or financial aid packages based on need, etc. Do very careful research before you commit to Americorps, because it may be to your advantage to go before or after college instead of after your first year. Whatever you decide, it's a wonderful aspiration.
