The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #237:
  • I have been rejected from every college that I applied to. I was told by my first choice college that I should write a letter of appeal. Do you have any advice as to what I should write?
Answer #237:
  • It is a bit difficult for me to advise you without knowing why you were rejected. If you did not apply to the right range of schools, then there is very little you can do no matter what you say in a letter of appeal.
However, if you believe that you were in the right range, write to the schools you care about and tell them why you think you should be reconsidered. Make them aware of things you have done in the months since you sent in your application. Tell them of any new accomplishments or successes. Advise them of the possible contributions you could make to the campus. Be sincere and honest.
I would also suggest you find an educational consultant who can advise you about which schools are still looking for students to fill their incoming freshman classes. There are many fine schools which offer rolling admissions or which have had a yield which is smaller than they expected.
