The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #19:
  • I am a senior and have a high SAT score (1310) but a low GPA (2.7). What can I do to improve my chances of getting into a good college ? (courtesy GOCOLLEGE)
Answer #19:
  • It is difficult for me to know exactly which college you might like since you do not mention your interests, preferences and geographical limitations. There are, however, several things you can do to make yourself more attractive to colleges. You are right -- 2.7 is low and 1310 is high. You could take a postgraduate (PG) year at a prep school specifically to raise your grades. Direct links to the web sites and e-mail addresses of Prep Schools can be found on the EDUFAXIndependent School List. You could do a special one-semester or year-long travel/study program. You could take a semester at a local college and show that you can do well in university-level courses. Direct links to the web sites and e-mail addresses of Colleges in your state can be found on the EDUFAXResources page. And finally, you have to show by your senior grades and your application essay that you are sincere about changing your academic lifestyle.
