The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in COLLEGE.....
| Question #186: |
- It is now late April. Are any schools still accepting
applications for fall of next year?
|
| Answer #186: |
- Although many schools have already closed acceptances for next
fall, there are still a number of options open to you.
You could begin at a Community College and transfer later to a
four year college.
You could also start courses as a nonmatriculated student at a
nearby school and later petition to have these credits accepted
towards your degree.
There are also many four-year colleges which offer rolling
admissions. This means that they do not have an application
cutoff date, and continue to accept students until their class
is filled.
Even colleges which use a cutoff date, sometimes find themselves
with open slots due to a lower than expected yield for the
freshman class. If you have unusual circumstances which could
explain your late application -- you just came out of a coma,
you were trapped and were held captive by hostile Sherpas at the
top of Mt. Everest --, you could contact the admissions office
at a school which interests you to investigate what your chances
are of a fall or perhaps a January admission.
Your best bet is to make a list of schools which you would like
to attend. Check information on their web sites or contact the
admission offices directly to see if they have a rolling
admission policy or they have any openings in the incoming
freshman class. Although it is late, can get help from your high
school guidance counselor or from an independent educational
consultant. If you are serious about beginning your
post-secondary education without delay, your tenacity alone
should be a positive recommendation!
