The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #164:
  • I am a junior. I have received a letter of provisional acceptance from a college. Are colleges beginning to recruit earlier? Financial aid was not mentioned in the letter. (courtesy Raquel McLellan, Austin TX)
Answer #164:
  • From scores on your standardized testing and other information you may have submitted earlier in the year, some colleges have identified you as a prospective student - a good match for their admission criteria.
Unfortunately, the letter of provisional acceptance has nothing to do with financial aid. If you are truly interested, you should follow through by contacting the people who sent the letter and requesting an interview (in-person, or by phone). Although financial aid is usually separate from admissions, colleges have been known to recruit good candidates aggressively, a policy which sometimes enhances the financial aid package.
