The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #138:
  • I am a junior at a private school. I take college prep courses, Honors English, AP US History, Honors Chemistry. I have over 100 hours of community service. I am a member of the film club, captain of the varsity soccer team. I am in M.U.N. and NHS. My SAT=1000, my ACT+25, my GPA=3.7. What are my chances of getting into Notre Dame or Georgetown ?
Answer #138:
  • It sounds as though your are busy every moment of your life!
If you have a few free moments, however, I would devote them to preparing for the SAT or ACT. Unless you can prove that your standardized test scores were affected by a specific learning disability, they are not in the range usually considered by Georgetown. Notre Dame can be a bit more lenient and will look at the whole person, but they usually look for SAT scores above 1250. You still have a chance to prepare and to take the SAT or ACT several more times. Perhaps you could hire a tutor who will go over your trouble spots with you and help you learn to strategize more effectively.
