The EDUFAX Educational FAQ
I am interested in COLLEGE.....
| Question #118: |
- Up to this semester my cumulative undergraduate GPA
was 3.7. Unfortunately, this semester I am not doing well and my GPA
has dropped to 3.5 (2.5 in Organic Chemistry). Will this affect my
chances for Medical School?
|
| Answer #118: |
- Everything you do affects your medical school applications, but as
long as you can explain this temporary lapse, you should be fine.
You can discuss it on your application or during your interviews.
Make sure, however, that the lapse is indeed temporary. Grades, of
course, are not the only criterion considered. Prepare well for your
MCATs and make sure that your application essay is original and
insightful.
Of course, Organic Chemistry is one of the most important classes
medical school admissions officers look at. You might try taking it
again over the summer. Even though it will not have an effect on
your GPA, it will show them that you really want to make sure you
have learned as much Organic Chemistry as you can.
