The EDUFAX Educational FAQ

I am interested in COLLEGE.....

Question #116:
  • How can I find out what competitive colleges think of my school? 90% of the students in my high school continue to college.
Answer #116:
  • When the college reps come to your high school, ask them what they think. Also, take a look at the admission records from previous years (these should be on file in the guidance office at your high school). The number of students going to top schools should give you a clue as to how your school is perceived.
Nationally, 90% is a high percentage of high school graduates going into college. It sounds as though you are in a competitive academic school. However, even when a high school itself is not ranked in the academic elite, a student from that high school can still be considered a star. Students are compared to others in their class, and to others nationally, so a challenging curriculum, class rank and standardized test scores are very important.
You would do best to worry about your own academic and extracurricular achievements instead of wondering how colleges rank your high school.
EDUFAX provides services for the Collegebound High School Student.
